The Sun comes home

The Sun comes home

We begin the month with Sun at the edge of Cancer.

This is the gandanta or ‘spiritual knot’ placement which the movement of Venus has been highlighting. Sun will be here for only a couple of days, while he makes his way into his own sign Leo. Whatever instability might be created by Sun’s brief foray into the tensions of gandanta, his spirits (and thus ours) are lifted due to his knowing that after the instability his feet will fall on home ground.

He is leaving the soft, watery terrain of Cancer where he has been for the last month to now bring the focus to themes of the sign of the Lion: authority, power, sustained effort, agency, independence.

As I’ve mentioned, Sun shines his light wherever he goes and thus highlights the themes of the sign he resides in for the month. This creates something like the underlying flavor for the month, with the other planets circulating inside that pervading taste. This theme will not always be in the foreground, just as the Sun’s light is not always consciously noted or noticed, but provides the light for everything that happens within a day.

Last month, we saw themes of home, heart, health, and other things Cancerian (care, cleanliness, changeability, etc). This month we move into a background of the fixity inherent in Leo, which is the Sun’s throne.

The comfort and confidence the Sun naturally feels in his own place will likely be a welcome relief from the changeability he would have had to adapt to last month in the moveable water sign Cancer. Leo is among the most reliable of signs, being ruled by the steadiest planet in the zodiac (Sun does not vary from his regular motion of 1 degree per day), and being a fixed (determined) fire sign. Just as a certain dependability is required of the King of a Kingdom, or the ruler of any country, Leo is a sign from which we can count on the job getting done (barring any major afflictions).

It is the firmness which forms the foundation of the quality of energy for the month. The experience of this on the ground will likely be one of a natural confidence and firmness of resolve. The Sun’s strength will also make it easier to implement things like healthy routines and new health measures or practices. Essentially, all things related to the Sun can thrive this month because Sun has the support of being in his home environment.

As always, this placement will be modified by the influence of other planets. Luckily, on the day that Sun enters Leo, Mars will leave, reducing some of the pressure which can be caused by the influence of malific planets. Sun will still have to contend with the direct gaze of Saturn from Aquarius and the influence of Rahu (and a supportive Jupiter) from Aries. Rahu-Saturn influence can create a windstorm effect which will test the sturdiness of Sun’s placement here. The best course of action will be to behave like the Sun: remain steady, firm in action and focused even if there are distracting elements in your environment or your life. The more we allow Rahu and Saturn to whip us up into a storm, the harder it becomes to find our feet again in whatever course of action we were dutifully plodding along in in Leo.
